Lung cancer is one of the deadliest cancers affecting the US population. It causes 160,000 deaths yearly – that’s more than breast, prostate, colon and pancreatic cancers combined. The high mortality rate is thought to be due to the majority of cases being diagnosed in the later stages.
More recently, screening to diagnose lung cancer in its earliest stages has been shown to reduce the mortality of patients with this type of cancer. Tuality Healthcare is proud to be the first hospital in the Portland Metro area to offer a lung cancer screening program to patients.
This chat, led by Tuality pulmonologist Dr. Srinivas Mummadi, will discuss the lung cancer screening program which consists of a low-dose CT scan, consultation with a pulmonologist to review the results, and a visit with a nicotine dependence counselor.
