Tuality Healthcare continues to lead the way among Oregon hospitals by attesting in January and receiving payment in April for Stage 1 Meaningful Use for Medicare.
This phase of adoption of the federal Affordable Care Act, informally referred to as Obamacare, is focused on health-care professionals using certified electronic health records (EHR) technology to deal with the following health outcomes:
This is another case of Tuality Healthcare showing the leadership in support of healthcare reform. The Hillsboro-based health care company was an early adopter of EHR technology, going live with its house-wide electronic health record in 2008.
In January, Tuality successfully attested to Stage 1 Meaningful Use for Medicaid. Both Stage 1 attestations are part of the federal government’s push to get hospitals to complete conversion to electronic records in a tight time frame.
The attestations have resulted in Tuality delivering improved quality of care and offering patients a better clinical experience. Manny Berman, Tuality’s chief operating officer, and Sonney Sapra, Tuality’s chief information officer and director of information systems, were both delighted with the latest Meaningful Use news.
“Hats off to Sonney and many other Tuality employees for continuing to push forward on this important project,” said Berman. “It’s nice to know that we are the benchmark for Oregon hospitals.”
Sapra attributed finishing the project well before its deadline to the hard work of the Meaningful Use Steering Committee, the Project Management and Information Systems team, and, mostly, to the end-users who have been dedicated to making Meaningful Use a priority.
To achieve Stage 1 Meaningful Use for Medicare, a hospital must meet 14 objectives and five of 10 secondary objectives. An example of a core item is: Deliver a discharge summary to every patient. Also of note is the impact Tuality MyHealth, Tuality’s patient portal, has on patient information and involvement. The portal allows patients to access their medical records in the safe and secure online environment at www.tuality.org
“It’s a great step for Tuality and our community,” Sapra said. “We are well ahead of the curve in comparing ourselves to other healthcare facilities, while striving to improve the patient experience”
Tuality is awaiting the final rule from the federal government on the Stage 2 Meaningful Use requirements for Medicare. Once the final rule has been published, Tuality will begin the work required to meet all of the requirements in Stage 2.
