Tuality Healthcare was the winner of a prestigious School to Work Business Partner Award at the recent Crystal Apple Awards banquet hosted by the Greater Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce at the Tuality Health Education Center. Each year, the chamber presents a host of awards to outstanding educators, administrators, support staff and organizations that support excellence in education.
Moments in Time Photography, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and Alma Sproul of Pacific University were the other School to Work Business Partner Award winners.
Tuality’s Clinical Education Department hosts a variety of programs that help place high school students in the workplace, according to clinical educator Marilyn Hickman, RN, BSN, BC. The department plays host to five high school career days during the calendar year. These career days attract 300 students from western Washington County high schools, plus students from Banks and Vernonia. The department also sponsors an internship program which places students who have an interest in health care in clinical areas like nursing, laboratory and radiology work. The department usually places 45 to 50 students a year in the internships. Students spend around 24 hours in a particular clinical area internship.
The department has two upcoming events for students – a Nursing Career Event on March 30 and a Health Services Career Event on April 5. Students interested in registering for these High School Career events should contact the Hillsboro Chamber’s School to Work program at 503-681-0535, or their respective School to Work counselor in the public high schools.
