Tuality Healthcare is pleased to welcome Akkaraju Sarma, M.D., to the medical staff. Dr. Sarma is a board certified internal medicine specialist who practices at Orenco Station Medical Group, 6355 NE Cornell Rd., suite 100, in Hillsboro. He is available for appointments by calling 503-597-3130.
Dr. Sarma earned his medical degree at the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in St. Maarten. He continued his education at the Medical Center of Central Georgia, Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, Ga., where he completed his residency in internal medicine and also served as chief resident.
Dr. Sarma is undergoing fellowship training at the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine in Tucson, which is part of the University of Arizona. Integrative medicine focuses on a therapeutic relationship between the patient and caregiver, and emphasizes patients’ involvement in their own health care. It encompasses a holistic philosophy addressing the mind and body, and increases awareness of alternative therapies while maintaining the integrity of conventional treatment.
Before moving to Oregon, he operated his own integrative medicine consulting business in Arizona. Prior, he served as a hospitalist with Apogee Physicians in Phoenix.
He has special interest in the importance of spirituality in medicine, and how this relates to the doctor-patient relationship and the medical system as a whole. He also is involved in healing arts that include meditation, nutrition, movement, breathing and spiritual practices, and is especially interested in the field of physician wellness.
When away from the workplace, Dr. Sarma enjoys the beauty and quietness of the natural environment, travelling, dancing, self-knowledge study, and football.
