Attention golf fans. If golf is your game, then plan on seeing the best women golfers in the world and helping the Tuality Healthcare Foundation at the same time. The event is the 2011 Safeway Classic, scheduled Aug. 15-21 at the world-renowned Pumpkin Ridge Golf Course near North Plains.
A program called TICKETS Fore Charity sponsored by West Coast Bank allows people who purchase a weekly pass for the LPGA tournament to designate the proceeds to the Tuality Healthcare Foundation. A weekly grounds ticket costs $25; a 10-pack of weekly grounds tickets costs $200. To buy tickets, go to http://safewayclassic.com/tickets/, click on the Tickets tab, scroll down and click the “Purchase Here” button and choose Tuality Healthcare Foundation as your charity of choice.
The Safeway Classic is one of the premier golf tournaments in the Pacific Northwest and has a long, successful history in the great Portland area. The tournament was founded in 1972 and has generated more than $15 million for Portland area charities. The 2010 Safeway Classic donated $1 million to charities for the fifth straight year.
The tournament proper runs Friday-Sunday, Aug. 19-21, at the Ghost Creek Course at Pumpkin Ridge. Other events are scheduled from Monday-Thursday, including the two day pro-am on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 17-18. Yani Tseng of Taiwan is the current LPGA money leader with winnings of over $1.3 million through 11 events.
