The Greater Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce and Tuality Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente Northwest and Providence Health Plans are teaming up to host a health insurance exchange conference designed for small business owners on May 31, 8 – 11:15 a.m., at the Tuality Health Education Center, 334 SE 8th Ave. in Hillsboro. The event is free.
The conference, entitled “Navigating the Affordable Care Act: Focus on Small Business” is intended to provide guidance for business owners as they seek to navigate the new health insurance exchange marketplace that goes into effect on Oct. 1, 2013. The event will feature experts from the health insurance industry, Cover Oregon (the new central marketplace where individuals and employers will be able to compare insurance plans and access government financial assistance information), and the Community Assistors group, which is charged with answering health insurance questions.
The event will feature a continental breakfast and plenty of time for questions and answers.
The Health Insurance Marketplace website is a result of the Affordable Care Act, the federal healthcare reform act that President Barack Obama signed into law in 2010. The act’s intent is to increase the number of Americans covered by health insurance, improve healthcare outcomes, and reduce the overall costs of health care.
“Negotiating the new health insurance exchange is a complex proposition,” said Deanna Palm, the chamber president. “What we hope to accomplish with this summit is to give small business owners the tools they need to successfully navigate the plans that take effect in October.”
