On October 28th, Veterans Representatives from the State of Oregon awarded Tuality Healthcare two Patriot Awards for service to veterans during the Washington County/WorkSource Beaverton/Hillsboro Job and Resource Fair in May. Representatives gave the first award, highlighting individual contributions to veterans, to Library Manager Judith Hayes for her efforts in organizing and setting up the job fair. This is her second Patriot Award for her efforts organizing and supporting the May event. Tuality received the organizational award for hosting and hiring 20 veterans in 2013.
The two awards signify the first time an employer and individual won awards together. “It feels really good to be able to participate in helping people find jobs, which this job fair certainly did. Ten to fifteen percent of the 500 or more veterans who attended received job offers as a result of the connections made here at Tuality,” said Hayes.
There were 60 employers and 15 community service and training resource providers available to assist veterans with their employment and educational needs. Of the roughly 500 veterans who attended, 50 found employment with companies including Intel, Comcast, US Bank, the City of Hillsboro and many more. “Many employers stated, ‘it was the best job fair they have been to,’” said Kurt Carlsen who serves as a Veterans Representative for WorkSource Oregon. “Tuality Healthcare won the employer award for their continued support of veterans and helping veterans find employment with the hospital,” said Carlsen.
Tuality Healthcare and WorkSource Oregon are planning another career fair in May of 2014 as a resource for veterans. The Patriot Award began in 2006, with Stimson Lumber as the first recipient for its support to veterans. Past award recipients include Wal-Mart, Western Washington Oregon Employer Council, Walking Point Farm and others.
