Tuality Healthcare’s employee flu shot campaign is in mid-season form with a rate of 81 percent of all employees receiving a flu shot. The total number of employees receiving a flu shot as of Oct. 16 is 1,229.
A safe hospital and clinic environment for both employees and patients is the target of the flu-shot campaign. The goal of this year’s campaign is a 95 percent vaccination rate. Last year, the employee health department and others delivered 1,798 flu shots for a 90-percent rate.
Employee Health nurse Nina Larkins, RN, is pleased with the numbers so far, saying “it’s a very brisk response in a short amount of time.
The Employee Health department received a boost early this month when it was announced that Tuality has received a $1,800 grant for the 2012-2013 campaign from the Oregon Adult Immunization Coalition.
“We are so pleased to be awarded this grant as this was a truly a collaborative effort with Infection Prevention and Employee Health in completing the grant process,” said Joan Otterman, infection control nurse. “We will use the grant to increase our vaccination rates through additional staffing hours to give flu vaccine, additional prize drawings and focusing on key areas that continue to show lower vaccination rates.”
Flu shots remain available at Tuality Urgent Care, Tuality Forest Grove Hospital emergency department and at Employee Health on the Hillsboro campus.
