The 17th annual C.A.T. Walk & Fun Run raised approximately $72,255 to help Tuality Healthcare provide cancer services in Hillsboro and western Washington County. Since its inception in 2001, the C.A.T. (Cancer Awareness and Treatment) Walk has raised more than $940,500 to support Breast Health Services, Tuality/OHSU Cancer Center and Hillsboro Hematology & Oncology.
Organized by the Tuality Healthcare Foundation, C.A.T. Walk attracted a crowd of 911 walkers and runners on the 4th of July in downtown Hillsboro. This year’s fastest runners include: Marcus Graham, 14, of McMinnville, who finished the 5K with the fastest men’s time of 17 minutes, 43 seconds. Heriberto Ornelas, 48, of Forest Grove, was the fastest men’s Masters Division finisher with a time of 22 minutes, 9 seconds. Meggie Karp, 17, of Hillsboro, had the fastest women’s time at 18 minutes, 16 seconds. Patty Peck, 46, of Hillsboro, was the fastest women’s Master Division finisher with a time of 25 minutes, 38 seconds.
In addition to the timed 5K walk and fun run, the annual event included a Kids’ Dash and Kids’ Zone, featuring an inflatable slide and face painting. The C.A.T. Walk health fair highlighted many of the quality services provided at Tuality Healthcare.
Tuality Healthcare Foundation Director Marykay Morelli told the crowd, “Cancer is not an easy journey and it can’t be walked alone. It takes a community of medical professionals, family and friends. And it takes funds. Thank you for walking a short course for cancer patients on a hard road.”
Tuality Healthcare CEO, Manny Berman, praised the event’s presenting sponsor, Metro West Ambulance, as well as other sponsors including Farmington Gardens, Sheldon Manufacturing, Tuality OHSU Cancer Center, Baker Rock Resources, Medline Industries, Milliman, Pacific University, Henningsen Cold Storage, the Hillsboro Hops, Andersen Construction, Columbia Bank, Genentech, AnchorPointe Graphics, and Pamplin Media.
